Clay Face

Woody Almond v. (Meißner Tremonia) bitter almond, Texas cedar

The problem with many almond scented soaps is they’re so sickly sweet. Cella and Valobra's soft almond cream lead my list of real gaggers thanks to their cloying combination of sugared almonds and candied cherries. How does MT get around this mess? Loaded with talc, kaolin, and cosmetic clays, nearly all MT’s hard soaps have a certain earthy aroma that figures in the overall fragrance. When lathered, the minerals and clays remind me of wet cement, a smell I actually like and one that works well with base note heavy fragrances. In Woody Almond, these clays temper the bitter almond’s sweetness, while Texas cedar gives it added ballast. The resulting scent is dirty, slightly smoky, and agreeable. The lather smells like desert rain falling on sandstone. This is one almond soap I could happily use day after day.

Been awhile since we've seen a Dr. Selby shave.  Thank you.

Today I am using the Valobra unscented puck. Definitely one of my top three soaps!

I'm forced to wonder if there is a more underrated soap maker out there, just steller performance and a great woodsy fall scent
