Cubebe v. (Saponificio Varesino) bergamot, lemon, white fir, black pepper, nutmeg, patchouly, vetiver, labdanum & benzoin
Each summer I seem to fixate on one soap. In past years I’ve been hooked on Penhaligon’s Endymion, Mike’s Hungarian Lavender, CRSW’s Juniper, SV’s Felce Aromatica, and BM’s Beaudelaire. This year Cubebe has got me in a head lock. Like most of SV’s scents, Cubebe is broad and complex. (See the list of notes above.) I especially like the white fir, which takes me back to the high country, while the amber and spices keep it elegant without making it too groovy. Is there any actual piper cubeba in it? Doesn’t look like it, but plumeria and gardenia oils give the soap a nice floral bouquet that fits in well with warm summer weather.
