What soap/cream did you use today?

I like sandalwood and I like Black Tie Razor Company soaps.  Today was Sir Henry Sandalwood and what a unique sandalwood it is.  The lather is predictably BTR with a lofty structure and great slickness andd cushion.  This isnt the quickest to lather but neither is it difficult. The scent has sandalwood but a bunch of other scents going too.  I totally get a eucalyptus vibe (which I like) but am told there is no eucalyptus in the mix.  Anyway, the scent is very nice and although pretty strong it's not cloying.  What I really like about this base is the feeling on my skin.  I assume it's because it's only essential oils they use to build the accord.  Love this suds.

Everytime I see a Sandalwood review I am reminded that I really need to get to Pasteur's in NYC and test some Sandalwood soaps.

I am currently hunting a Sandalwood that is close to / the same scent as Duke Cannon's Beer Soap. The scent is intoxicating and I'd love to have it in a shave soap.

Thanks for the reminder, as painful as it's getting. Lol.

Beaudelaire t. (Barrister & Mann) anise fougère

Thanks to B&M and West Coast Shaving for bringing back Beaudelaire. Now that I’ve got a new tub in reserve, I can load from this old puck with abandon and slather my face silly with one of my favorite fragrances. What does it smell like? Jay Gatsby’s mansion. Spicy, elegant, complex, with a hint of something devilish around the edges, Beaudelaire goes equally well with Histoires de Parfums’ impish 1740 or Caron’s silken Third Man.

I don't know which is better, the soap or the Band!

Honestly, what tends to give me the best results on a consistent basis is doing a partial bloom (5-6 drops of water on the puck...depending on the soap, it may take more than a few drops) while I shower and then load off the puck for about 10 seconds.  I will then wipe up whatever lather or proto-lather is left on the puck and put it on the brush (I do this mainly to keep my pucks "clean" but it does seem to help with the lathers).  I then face-lather for several minutes using mostly paint-strokes.  When I add water, I'll just dip the tips of the brush into the sink water (I don't worry about being careful or only using a certain amount of water...it's really just dip and right back to face-lathering).  Sometimes, if the lather is really dry, I'll dip up to half the knot in order to get the lather hydrated well.  

I started doing this method more out of necessity with MW soaps and now I use the same method for all soaps.  So far, it's been working well and giving me the type of lather I enjoy.  I'm sure it's not everyone's "cup of tea", but that's the beauty of this hobby...use the method that makes you happy!
