I'm not sure that having a son as addicted to shaving as I is a good thing. He is collecting a ton of soaps and of course loans them to me as a favor for the loaning I do and did to him. This is a soap out of his den. B&M is a favorite base for me although his scents are polarizing. Some I love some I hate. This is my first go at the excelsior base and folks, it's a good-un. I watched a vid where Will was showing how to lather it with a couple of guys from West Coast Shaving but I've never had issues lathering any of Wills soaps and found no issue with this one either. First off, the soap is thirsty and offers a low low low structure lather. Very slick. Very protective. Very B&M. Awesome. The scent: well first of let me say that I like it. It's not earth moving for me as is Art of Shavings sandalwood or Caties Bubbles La Terre Vert but it's good and it's pleasant and it's different. I get grapefruit and cantaloupe. (There is no cantaloupe in it). I like both grapefruit and cantaloupe a lot. Odd combo somehow but it works. Scent strength is a bit weaker than most B&M offerings but it is a very well balanced level and persists through the shave. There seems to be no scent persisting after final rinse. Post shave is not the best I've had but it's right up there. The packaging is weird enough to keep the Dr. Seus theme in the picture. And that the soap supports child literacy is a good thing too. B&M did well with this soap.

Crabtree & Evelyn Lavender shaving soap (vintage). It makes wonderful lather, but the puck clatters around to much in the bowl while the brush is loading, so I think I'm going to let it dry for a couple hours, then grate it and repack it into the bowl. It would fit into a mug, but I don't like trying to load a brush in a mug.
