It's a black cherry scent, nice and sweet of the dish, then mostly disappears in lathering. The soap is soft, very close to a cream. It whips up fairly easily, but I couldn't get a dense protective lather.

After applying the lather and waiting, I noticed quite a bit of dissipation and drying. Typically not a good sign. True to that thought, it turned out to be subpar protection and hydration, leaving my skin irritated and on the dry side.

Very glad I only got a sample. I'd hate to have to toss a tub of soap.

English Rose v. (Wickham Soap Co.) old-fashioned rose

Rose is such a popular scent that it gets dumped into everything from shampoo to handsoap to air freshener to foot lotion. Most of the time it smells like a perfumer's interpretation of a rose: as much geranium and citrus as real rose essence. Only the most expensive perfumes capture the complexity and wet velvety texture of a fresh garden rose. Truth be told, most cosmetic roses smell dry and flat, and English Rose falls right in with them. It’s a simple rose that’s neither bad nor particularly interesting. The lather follows suit. It gave me a good shave that nevertheless left my skin dry and tight for several hours. I’m still chipping away at this sample, but I’m not sure I’ll move on to a full tub.
