Vétyver v. (Martin de Candre) light vetiver & citrus
The deeper I delve into this jar, the more interesting the scent becomes. This morning I thought I caught a whiff of bergamot mixed in with the pale wispy vetiver.
The best bergamot orchards are said to grow in the south of Italy. Their fruit, a hybrid of lemon and bitter orange, tastes like sour, sulfuric grapefruit. Most consider it inedible. But the essential oil, gently squeezed from its wrinkled skin, smells divine. It has been used to make mornings brighter ever since 1709, when Johann Maria Farina put a liberal dose in his first cologne.
