A long load with a boar brush still led to a surprisingly small amount of lather. With MdC a little is reputed to go a long, long way, but I was seeing the opposite. Tempted to reload for the third pass, I decided to first rinse the brush. As I ran it under the tap I noticed the remaining wisps of lather suddenly become very, very slick. So, I hyper hydrated what was left in the lather bowl until it took on a light slimy texture, and painted a thin coat on my face. When I made the third pass, I could have sworn the blade had fallen into the sink. There was no sensation of tugging or cutting. It felt like I was rubbing my skin with a bit of polished marble.

I've clearly got a lot to learn about this soap. Though I've used MdC for years, I've always worked from samples. I found it to be an interesting though not particularly jaw-dropping soap. I see now that loading from a full jar calls for more patience and lots more water, but the results can be astonishing.

Very interesting. I've found that more water is often my solution and it's great to read reports from our resident island lather-hound. Keep us informed.

Modern Williams with my Braun Series-9. I whipped up the lather with my JR-338, and finished with a splash of AV Ice Blue AS. Here's a picture of my new favorite brush. It has a Pine Handle with a Maggard's 70/30 Badger/Boar 24mm. Knot set in it.

Uber lather

Slick, no cushion- not very thirsty

Need to add some glycerin and a spot of lanolin next time. A lot of trouble, but the fragrance is great for cold spring days. [Image: 542f339ad100c539d8a8b028edfb4644.jpg]

Today and yesterday's soap was Art of Shaving Sandalwood tallow. Man I like this soap. Easy load. Easy lather. Good slickness and protection, and that sandalwood scent! Wow!

Barrister & Mann - 42 (maybe 1 or 2 more uses...I'm finding it very difficult to load the little that is left and my lather today wasn't up to B&M standards)
