What soap/cream did you use today?

French Vetiver v. (Cyril R. Salter) ★★★★☆ reeking vetiver

Burnt roots, rust, coffee grounds, ashes, coal stoves, boiled spinach, dirt, grass clippings ... it's all in here, and it's all good. This is the most unapologetic vetiver of them all, just straight up unrefined essential oil squeezed from the earthy roots of this tropical grass. It's called French Vetiver because the French island of Réunion was one of the first to supply vetiver oil to the cosmetic industry. Nowadays, vetiver is grown in many tropical locations. The oil in this cream could just as easily come from Indonesia. In fact, I've got some thick and gooey Javan vetiver oil that matches this soap note for note. Does the cream give a good shave? I've had better - though it's slick, I'm usually left with a nick and a light burn. But nothing rivals the genuine aroma of its fragrance.

Because I love vetiver and the dirtier the better. And because I am out of Salters French Vetiver. And because I like soaps over creams (it's a process thing). My friend Bouki recommended Mikes Vetiver and I need to thank him. This soap has all the wonder that is Mikes and provides me the vetiver fix I like. Scent strength is 6/10 and is present throughout the shave. No lingering scent post shave so wear whatever frag you choose. Scent is not nearly as bold as Salters and it's more nutty than grassy. There is a hint of smoke but not a swamp fire. No notes in the accord to mess with the wonder that is vetiver.
