Matsilainen : Suomi! what an awesome language. We just finished watching Deadwind, a mystery set in Helsinki. The plot was interesting, but the Finnish was really the captivating part. Not since I lived in Japan had I experienced a language so different from anything I've studied. After 12 episodes I still understood only one word, "ei." Now I'm scouring Netflix for more Finnish mysteries!
Sorjonen/Bordertown is also very nicr
Apologies for the late reply! Yes, the Finnish language really is something else, and a mighty challenge for most adults to learn. (Given the country’s location and size, I suspect that there are no more than about three adults trying to learn the language at any given time.) Thanks for the tips, fellows — I had not even heard about Deadwind and Sorjonen! Last week in the theater I did see two movies that were situated in neighboring Sweden, though. Those Swedes, they’ve always been better at marketing than us Finns…

As for the most recent soap:
Mystic Water Soap Brown Windsor

I find this scent rather nondescript, but then the great feeling Mystic Water imparts during and after the shave is rather amazing.

I like Vetiver and especially dirty Vetiver. This one suits my nose just fine. See my review of Esbjerg Orange Vetiver here on DFS. My tub is nearing the bottom and will not be replaced. It's performance is good but not great in my hard water. The "almond sized" dollop discussed with creams needs to be trebled to obtain a low-structured lather with pretty good slickness. Post shave is awesome. The scent is about 7/10 and to my nose is the best part of this cream. Leads with orange which is swallowed by unrefined Vetiver. Glorious but not pedestrian.

Clay Face
Honolulu, Hawaii
Marrakesh t. (Mystic Water Soap) ★★★★★ patchouli, cedar, cinnamon, oak moss

This is patchouli at its best, smoky but smooth and still just a little dirty. Patchouli is an herb related to mint and basil. Like them, it has developed a strong smell to repel bugs that might otherwise nibble away its tender leaves. I guess I'm not a roach because I love this stuff. MW say there's some lime and petigrain in Marrakesh too, but I don't get them, and I don't really miss them. I'm happy smelling the earth and camphor. A light dusting of cinnamon rounds off the corners and adds some warmth.

I don't load MW soaps with a brush anymore. Instead I use a small square-tipped spatula to plane a long ribbon of soap from the surface of the puck. This goes into a lather bowl where I whip and water it until I've got something that looks like fresh cream. No matter how much water I add, the emulsion never breaks, but it can get pretty heavy and even starts to sag off my face.
