Stella Alpina v. (Saponificio Varesino) ★★★★★ citrus, herbs, eucalyptus
A bright, bold scent married to a perfect vegan lather make Stella Alpina one of my all time favorite soaps. SV pucks don't come cheap, but their performance justifies the expense. The suds are as thick and slick as a tallow soap but there's no fatty animalic side notes. It finishes dry and smooth. Just the right thing for a cool Fall afternoon.

Marshlands t. (L&L Grooming) ★★★★★ bergamot, vetiver, oakmoss
Heavy runoff from three days of rain has turned our surf brown. It's also brought a green, earthy smell to the beach. I can't say that it's entirely lovely, but it reminds me of the intriguing and very satisfying scent of this soap. What rescues Marshlands from becoming an ode to stagnant water is a nice helping of bergamot. It does wonders to clean up even the muddiest vetiver.
Marshlands is one of Scott's early soaps. It's firm, easy to lather, and makes for a great shave. The lather may be slightly drier than the suds born of the new Icarus formula, but I like it just as much, if not more.
