Vetiver (Le Père Lucien) vetiver & cedar

Cyril's latest soap formula includes Shea butter, which is supposed to give it a harder consistency than his other soaps. My sample, though, is much softer than my early tubs of LPL, which had no butter in them. I've got no complaints. This soft Vetiver loads more easily and builds a far more stable, far more protective lather than the harder LPL soaps I bought only a few years ago. In fact, Vetiver makes a very fine lather, rivaling the best soaps on my shelf, even the tallow ones. How does it smell? Cyril's tucked in both Indian and Javanese vetiver oils and has given them some brightness and breadth with a dash of cedar. It's all a bit earthy, but mostly I get a clean, woody scent that can almost be mistaken for rosemary.

Eleven Unscented (pre-production tallow tester)

There were two stars in this show. First of all, Eleven’s soap is marvelous, and was the foundation for a great shave. I wanted to add some “color” to what would’ve otherwise been an unscented shave, and P&J Trading’s fragrance oil delivered. Many have searched for happiness in a bottle — I found some in this one.
