Doc47, talk to us about this one!
Well to begin I bought the soap on a lark to see what Zoologist cologne added to the soap. Well it is a big hit with me. I really enjoy the fragrance which is a 8/10 but more than that this soap lathers easily into a mountain of fluffy lather. It is a slick and thick soap and as such feels wonderful on the face. The razor loved this soap and glided smoothly across my face. The post shave feel was also nice. It is a real keeper for me and it smells just like the cologne.
Thanks, Dan, for your description of this soap's performance, and your reply to Oasisdave's question about the scent! I've never smelled Zoologist's fragrances, but now my interest is piqued. In fact, I'm tempted to order a tub just for the label alone.
Basique (GroomingDept) wood, amyris, vetiver, patchouli
My neighbor makes fine furniture. He works with koa (acacia), mahogany, oak, walnut, and some pine. I like stopping by at the end of the day to smell the sawdust and shavings. It’s peaceful and calming. Tonight as I lathered Basique, I got the same sensation. The fragrance starts gently with a medley of soft woody notes, all very settling and soothing. What lingers after the final rinse is vetiver and amyris, that tropical wood that’s tart and green and peppery all at once. There’s some patchouli in there too, giving the scents a quiet base and some longevity without even the hint of dreadlocks.
Basique is currently being offered at a reduced price because the artisan considered the scent of the latest batch to be too mild. I can see how one more drop of juice would be nice. It really does smell fine. But part of the charm of this scent is how mellow it is. Just one notch higher would suit me perfectly.
