No. 88 (Czech & Speake) grape rose
I got about 31 shaves from each ounce of No. 88. That matches what I get from an ounce of D.R. Harris, Meißner Tremonia, or Saponificio Varesino. In other words, a puck is going to last you a full season, and then some. No. 88 also has this going for it: the scent’s interesting enough to use every day, and the quality of the shave it gives consistently ranks among the best. On the downside, a refill of No. 88 costs more – in some cases considerably more – than a refill of these other soaps, and if you are attracted by the anodized serving bowl, you may want to consider a reverse mortgage. To get the value out of this soap, you really have to pledge yourself to use it, a lot, but for those with a small rotation and an appetite for elegance, No. 88 may be the ideal soap.
