Frankincense & Myrrh (Mystic Water) dinner on the Nile
The ancient Egyptians soaked myrrh in vats of warm tallow until the fat absorbed the scent of the resin. As the mixture cooled and became solid, it was fashioned into cones. When honored guests came to dinner, a cone was placed on each visitor's head, and in the course of the evening, as the tallow melted, the fragrance perfumed the diner's hair.
Today’s shave may not have been quite as lavish, but it was close.
