Very favorable first impressions. I really like the lime-forward scent. The soap consistency is different from most, which I suppose was to be expected, looking at the ingredient list. Wasn’t sure how much to load, and at first I thought I didn’t load enough. But I did. Very nice, thick lather with incredible sheen, very good slickness, and nice post-shave. Looking forward to more shaves with this one.

Le Grand Chypre (Barrister & Mann) lime, frankincense, labdanum, oak moss, cedar

The labdanum walks in about thirty minutes after your done shaving, and instead of finding a quiet seat in a dim corner, it plops itself right in your lap. The soap starts off much more demure – a spritz of bitter lemon and lime, a dusting of frankincense, some patchouli – but once the citrus dies down, you get this magic surge of resin and oak moss, and all of a sudden you’re eating a peach on a rocky slope covered with herbs and goats. I don’t know what lamp Will rubbed, but he’s conjured up a genie this time. Le Grand Chypre is solid voodoo.
