Each of Abbate y La Mantia’s soaps is made with saffron and one or two other unusual ingredients. Garibaldi, for instance, features the Brazilian pequí nut. The fruit of the pequí is supposed to be good eating, however caution is advised when tackling it, as its spiky spines can pose a threat to one’s oral well-being. After indulging, let the pits bask in the sun for days, then extract the nut to produce coveted pequí oil for use in cosmetics like today’s Garibaldi.
