Anvil (Through the Fire Fine Craft) ★★★★ citrus and black pepper
With a little lavender, Anvil could easily be confused with L'Occitan pour homme bath soap. It's a simple, gentle fragrance that tallies closely to its maker's scent profile (though I get no smokey note at all). Twelve hours after using it, I can still smell Anvil's hygienic, discreet scent.
The tub lists only only five ingredients. None of them is tallow, clay, butter, or lanolin. This came as a complete surprise, since Anvil lathered like a tallow soap, taking as much water as I had the patience to dump into it. In fact, I worked on this lather for almost twenty minutes, searching for that point where it starts to collapse under the weight of the water. I didn't find it. My wrist wore out first and my wife reminded me that there were other things to do today besides teasing out soap suds.
When I was done shaving, I expected the chafing typical of glycerin soaps. Once again I was surprised. There was no irritation, nor any dryness. My skin was smooth and soft, and it stayed that way all day. I usually get this only from a soap enriched with superfats, lanolin, and allantoin.
