King of Oud (Wholly Kaw) apple oud
Shave 14 ・ 85 g left

Here’s one for Toudsday. To me King of Oud smells like apple pastry. Not real fruity, but crisp and spicy. Thankfully it’s sweet. I’m not getting any barnyard skank. A few splashes of bay rum and I’m all set for autumn.

‘Twas a great weekend.  Sir Henrys Dominic was in town for the NW wetshavers annual meet.  Todays shave features his always-awesome Sir Henry's Sandalwood.

We also got to jump in my truck and go see Teton National over the hill from me.

The grizz was close for awhile!  30 yards or so.  (We stayed in the truck).  Thanks for the company Dom.

Barrister & Mann - Fougere Gothique (Reserve)

Last shave was with this scent in the Omnibus base, today was with the Reserve. Hard to complain either way. About anything. But my instincts say my skin/procedure prefers the Reserve (sorry again, Tommy Big Grin not a diss to Omnibus).

For me, this is the ultimate Fall/Halloween scent. It gives me the impression of a frigid and earthy wind in the face on a pitch black night. Lost, with rotting leaves all around, boots covered in mud, the stink and the sweet. But still, elements of cold, crisp air/wind. I think I like the experience more than the scent itself. But that's okay. Experience is good. I have the EDP, so that says something.

So many great offerings right now but I was so glad Manuel decided to make Mediterraneo again. Classic all around in such a great soap base.

Mikes:  one of my favorite soaps and perhaps the oddest soaper in the business.  Inventories often have holes.  Shoot, inventories are most often zero.  No social media.  No engagement with the forums.  No ads in the local paper.  No attendance to County Fairs. Yet he continues to be relevant.  In the words of Yoda “flummoxed I am”.  I sure do enjoy a shave with Mikes Naturals though.  Scents are simple but very approachable.  The business model reminds me of Idaho’s Dugout Dick Zimmerman who decided he’d had enough of the rat race, dug a hole in the side of a hill, and lived there into his 90’s.  I know what your thinking but no.  Dick didn’t make shaving soap in the back of his cave and besides, he passed in 2010.  I used to stop in and see him a couple of times a year.  He’d sometimes strap on his 6 string (sometimes 5 or 4 string) and regale me with a tune.  My boys liked it when we would stop and visit and they would pet his goat.  I’m sure Mikes isn’t made in a cave but how would anyone ever know it?
