Maya smells like you’ve taken a shovel into the jungle and started a nice hole for your barbecue pit. As you dig deep the smells that come up are earthy, sort of sandy, and wet. Then come the spicy notes of cardamom, coffee, cocoa, and allspice. It’s nice and sort of soothing. My label also mentions lime and orange, but over the years they’ve burnt off. What’s left is just dark and delicious.

Are you still diving into the back of the den for long-lost soaps?  I'm just curious to see if Mystic Water makes an appearance

One of the best things about this is the little concession stand selling cold beers in the heart of this group of Mayan ruins.  Who knew the ancient Mayans liked a cold one on a hot day?

Eigengrau.  Weird name and odd scent but it’s a scent that I really enjoy.  Occasionally when I’m traipsing around in these Idaho hills I’ll come upon a big rotted stump that some wandering bear has recently shredded looking for grubs I suppose.  Occasionally I’ll nap while the thermals are fickle and if I don’t have a hammock I’ll find a punky, broken-down log and kick the remains into a soft bed.  If the stump or log is in a wetter environment the scent that wafts up is earthy and mossy and just darned good.  This soap reminds me of that scent.  I love kicking out a nap bed but I sure don’t do it where a bear has been working through the wood.

Who wouldn't enjoy a cold one attending an afternoon of ritually cruel human sacrifice?

HoosierShave, I've enjoyed delving deep into the heap this past week. There are still plenty of lost and forgotten soaps waiting to be resurrected. And, yes, Mystic Water is among them. But I may pause for a day or two as I enjoy a few more shaves with this Maya. The scent's really gripped me, and Southsider's photo of the ancient ruins his piqued my interest in all things Mayan.

Glad to hear your renovation is drawing to a close. I imagine you're going to really enjoy unpacking all your den. It's going to be Christmas in June. I have to admit, I'm very impressed with how you've been sticking with Martin de Candre's Fougère. It's a great fragrance, but I don't know if I could go months on end using only one soap. You're an inspiration.

After sharing a bathroom for the past few months, I fear the Mrs is going to start making the argument that using one soap for an extended period of time is normal! Big Grin
