Bad news in the wet shave world all related to tallow
First Haslinger, then Fine, and now Tabac.

I managed to squirrel away a few of the fat pills.

Thankfully a few of our new artisans still employ the fat!

Well, the USPS came through ahead of schedule yesterday. The tracking showed delivery Monday for this package, as well as the package with Tabac refills. Low and behold, both showed up yesterday. I reckon someone, somewhere, knew I was excited to get my mitts on this set. Or it was dumb luck. Nonetheless, the scent on Fougere Nemeta doesn't disappoint.
Right off the bat, there was a familiarity, and I couldn't put my finger on it right away. Then it it me...Stirling Varen. Not a dead ringer, however both share some notes.
The base is more thirsty than expected. I didn't want to push the boundaries too hard on the first outing. You'll have to forgive me if you see this set again over the next couple of days. I've got some playing to do.
Overall, the first impressions are very positive. Great scent and performance. Post shave is also excellent.

Barrister and Mann - Spice (Barrister's Reserve)

I commented that Mammoth's Tusk base acts like this Reserve base: sometimes it's a little snotty/stringy when loading (... and, with a little work and water, it ends up a normal looking lather, with no special effort required).
However, since stating that, I have also found that with both, if I start with more water in the brush before loading, I will totally avoid that snotty/stringy phase.
No big deal either way, but good to know, and I'll probably use the info from this discovery, myself.

Today was beautiful, thank you.... it finally cooled down to the point I could even consider using something like B&M Spice... even though I consider it a summer scent. Irony is the Spice of life (sometimes).

Clay Face

Vétyver 2017 v. (Martin de Candre) light vetiver
Shave 18 ・ 92% left

August is here at last, and that means it’s time for vetiver! Just as May hankers for roses, and July wallows in fougères, August is all about this noble weed. I’ll start off with one of the best, Martin de Candre’s Vétyver. Apart from the grassiness I get a sniff or two of citrus, and that’s about it. This is mostly straight up vetiver, somewhat mild and very clean. I’d use it every day if it weren’t for one thing: after a few outings I can’t pick up the scent. I think I must get used to it really fast. So it helps to have a few days between latherings just to reset the schnoz.
