Royal Fougère t. (Asylum Shave Works)
Penhaligon’s English Fern
Royal Fougère is full of moss, coumarin, and just a few flighty top notes. I get a good snort of mint, too. I recall it making a big splash when it first landed about four years ago. At that time there weren’t many full-bodied, classic fougères on the market, at least not ones that smelled much like Pen’s
English Fern, a fragrance held by many as the model for what a proper fougère should smell like. The soap reappeared in 2019, but we haven’t seen it since, and Bullgoose seems to have turned his attention to creams. I wish I had stocked up. It seemed pricey at the time, but it’s been well worth it.
