What an amazing shave today. First off, the Milksteak base is pretty amazing. That said, I'm not flushing my Tabac and moving into DG products exclusively. It's good sure enough good but not miles and miles better. What knocks me out is the scent. Smoky and resinous, Dark Fall reminds me of cooking pinion pinecones that are dripping with resin. It reaches the smoking point but does not burn and releases the nuts within. Lots of memories in this scent and I don't think pine is anywhere on the scent profile. Solid fall scent.
Bouki Wrote:Poggio dei Pini t. (Mystic Water) pine & flowersVery interesting! I love Poggio dei Pini but my puck is dry. Like hot sunshine dry. Pine and herbaceous with very little floral. Love it. Don't know what I'd think if it had a sweet floral scent. Wonder if she changed it up? My puck is two years old.
Stearic acid is the backbone of most soaps. Look at your label and you’ll usually find it listed among the first three ingredients. Mystic Water, however, leads off with tallow. Stearic acid is number 13 on the list. So what’s holding this soap together? It looks like tallow, Castor oil, glycerin, and Shea butter do a lot of the heavy lifting followed by avocado oil and palm oil. Building a lather takes some careful loading and a lot of brush & water work, but the results are worth it. If you prefer a slick, juicy lather with the finest grain possible and a finish that’s as plump as pudding, sink your brush into a tub of Mystic Water. Today’s scent, Poggio dei Pini, is a very floral interpretation of pine. I’ve had it for years and it still smells quite flowery. Noble Otter’s Trail does a better coniferous floral, but it’s hard to beat a MW finish.

Good scent, but still pretty flowery. If it were the dry pine you got, I'd be lathering this puck more than once a year.Bouki Wrote:Poggio dei Pini t. (Mystic Water) pine & flowersVery interesting! Havane v. (Le Père Lucien) tobacco & eucalyptus
Havane makes a great vegan lather and smells nice enough. I’m getting sweet tobacco, some rum, and a whole branch of eucalyptus. It’s not a remarkable scent, but now that I have a full tub of it, I find myself reaching for it about once a month. Like Santa Maria Novella’s shave soap, Havane is a pleasant (though far less complex) combination of dry leaves, sweet amber, and tart fresh eucalyptus. It works well on a clear autumn morning. The soap is sold by Art du Barbier Pogonotomie in France.
