A stiff boar brush and the flat of my palm made an especially slick, dense lather this morning. It’s not often that I palm lather. That’s a surprise since I almost always get splendid results. It can be messy, but I can always coax so much water into a handmade lather, and that makes for an especially smooth shave.

So far I’ve got twelve shaves out of this Gilette Silver Blue blade. I used to change my blade after five shaves, three if it was a Feather. Lately though my blades have been far more durable. What am I doing different? I’ve been dismantling my razor after each session to let the blade dry separate from the other parts. Somehow this seems to keep the blade sharp longer. I hear of some shavers getting forty to fifty shaves out of a single blade. I wonder what they're doing.

Bouki, I do the same thing...I always remove the blade, simply dry it with my fingertips, and then store it separately from the razor. I currently have a Kai blade with ~28 uses on it. It doesn't tug or feel uncomfortable but it does take a little extra effort in the cleanup passes to get a BBS shave. Otherwise, I could easily walk away with a DFS shave.

I've always changed the blade because I felt like that was what I had to do. I'm finding, just like everything else in this wet-shaving hobby of ours, do what fits you best. So, I'll continue to experiment with that blade and see what happens Smile
