My my my. Why do I bother with all these new soaps? One of the reasons I have so many soaps is because scents evoke so many memories. Cade, chosen because I've been using the juniper scented GD Elan, was my choice for this 4am whisker tug. I wanted to See how the two compared and although Elan smells pretty good, it's not L'Occitane Cade. Elan smells like crushed juniper berries cupped in my hand. Raw and piquant and astringent. Cade smells like juniper on the breeze. Light and lilting. The scent of the trees just catching the first heat of a soon-too-hot day. Wow, the trip it takes me on! I'm 16 again and riding old Pal up savage hollow to check on the water tank and then on up to the drift fence to make sure it's up and brushing back the cattle. Mmmm.

Morocco t. (Tallow+Steel) cade, cedar, juniper, cypress

A shave with Morocco is like a week in the Wind Rivers or Sawtooths. It leaves you smelling smoky, woodsy, earthy, and a little dank. This is a powerful fragrance that hugs your cheeks for half a day, and when you come home you’ll smell the puck in every corner of the house. It turns our beach cottage into a cabin in the mountains, and that’s a good thing. The lather of course is magnificent. Dense like fudge, it clings and protects against my sharpest blades and my clumsy hands.

Lipripper660: The scent borders on brutal, but I love it, and I think you may enjoy its deep smoke and woodiness, too.

Well now, the Wind Rivers are east of me, the sawtooths to the west. And now another soap to try. You are correct sir. Sounds like it's right up my alley.

Eufros/Jabonman Rosa-Oud shaving soap (sample). I'm grateful to Manuel for sending the sample, but my initial impression is that it is just so-so.
