Blu v. (Nuávia) ★★★★★ spicy amber
Like many vegetal soaps, Blu starts off frothy, but a minute of swirling and just a drop of water builds a solid lather that you could set bricks with. This transformation from scum to mortar is surprising. I've seen the like with some of Le Père Lucien's recent soaps, but Blu comes together far faster than that soap, and the resulting lather is richer and more protective. Blu finishes dry and smooth, it washes up clean, and it doesn't burn your eyes when you get a little sloppy with your brushwork.
Blu's also got this going for it: it smells really good. Loads of resin, incense, spice, and vanilla create a dark, rich, comfortable amber that makes for an excellent evening shave. Superb for fall and winter, it may be a little much in the warmer months of the year. Try pairing it with Gallivant's Istanbul or Serge Lutens' Ambre Sultan. They're both herby ambers with a nice pinch of spice.

Eufros Fougère shaving soap (tallow). I am not entirely happy with this - its lather is somewhat thin, unlike that of the Eufros Tobacco soap. I'll try it with a different brush next time.

I like pairing it with Amouage Epic Man.
Special soap it is!
