What soap/cream did you use today?

Today was Coates Cream Lime. Another user asked about favorite citrus scents and that has me reviewing some choices in my collection. Coates Lime won't ever be mistaken for a fresh lime plucked from the tree but it is unmistakably lime none the less and pleasant to my nose. Complex? Nope. This is a one note affair. Scent strength is about 6/10. The scent is pedestrian but the performance is fantastic. Easy to lather, this cream also offers cushion and slickness by the buckets. Discontinued years ago yet still available online.

Mystic Waters Gingered Cranberry Pear soap today. I bought this one blind last year expecting my wife, the holiday nut, would love it. She didn't, but I sure did! Cinnamon and my skin do not get along so you can guess I sniffed long and hard trying to detect what i supposed had to be there. What I could smell was ginger, cranberry, and pear backed by a holiday sweetness. This bold scented soap, 8/10, treats my skin just as awesome as other Mystic Water scents. Although others report difficulty lathering I've never had many issues with either the old formula or the new chelated formula. Lather is low structure and slick. Scent lingers for about an hour post shave. Mystic Waters post shave feel is about the best I know of.

Crema da Barba v. (Santa Maria Novella) tobacco, eucalyptus, menthol, patchouli

Santa Maria Novella's fragrances are favorites with many wet shavers. They have a medicinal twang that sets them apart from most colognes. Though some of their scents are mild, they generally smell authentic and interesting. The same goes for their soap, the Crema da Barba, which I used for the first time today. I had high hopes for attaining shave satori, the reviews of this soap have been so glowing. The scent did not disappoint: tobacco and eucalyptus cushioned on patchouli with a drop of menthol to brighten it all up. If you like SMN's Tobacco Toscano or their Patchouli, you'll probably find something very familiar in the smell of Crema da Barba.

The lather came out splendid. Half an almond of soap made enough suds for four, maybe five faces full. I gave myself three passes, I was so impressed with the feel of the stuff. But I should probably have stopped at two. Though the lather is stable, slick, and thick, it lacks that protective element that allows for a comfortable third pass. I ended up pretty sore for thirty minutes and then dry and tight after that. The soap doesn't seem to be packed with emollients, so a good balm should follow your shave.
