Before I used it I was pretty sure these had to be from the same supplier. After a few uses however, I'm not so sure anymore. This one seems to be a little springier and not as soft. Maybe it has to do with the size difference (26mm as opposed to 24mm) IDK.
Haven’t used a Maggard knot, but the loft could also be a culprit. A while ago, I got a brush with a 24 mm Tuxedo knot that is supposed to be authentic, yet it feels nowhere near as nice as my original 24 mm Tuxedo. Since the manufacturer has assured me that the knot is an authentic Tuxedo, the only factor I can think of that would make it inferior is its lower loft.
I thought of this too when I had it set lower, but now it's pretty much as high as it can be and it still has that springy feeling. It just doesn't splay as nice as my original Tuxedo.
Sounds similar to my experience. I’m having a hard time believing that the newer knot is an actual Tuxedo, it is so different than my first 24 mm or the 30 mm I have. It feels more like a wonky paintbrush than a nice shaving brush.

(Disclaimer: I have never actually used a paintbrush for lathering, but I can imagine the feeling.)

Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”

Yeah, that and factor in the dye bleeding into the lather for first few shaves, it really makes me question whether they are the same or just a cheap imitation.

Hey guys just curious if you have any idea if the Tuxedo knots that you are referring to would be from the first run (not sure when that would have been). Didn't they make some changes like making them denser.  I don't own a Tuxedo knot just the Maggard ones so have no ability to compare.  I had a brush made and could have gone with the 24mm Tuxedo but opted to go with a 26mm Maggard (have not shared it on DFS yet Blush ) and was told they were the same. He did bring up unless you are comparing it to the ApShaveCo first run knots. Just thought I would throw that out there.

Wolverine, I'm not sure if they made any changes to the original Tuxedos or not. I'm just noticing some differences between the Tuxedo and Maggard knots that people are saying (and I assumed were) the same. I got my Tuxedo around Thanksgiving last year and the Maggard at the meet up in the middle of May.

I don't think he's posted here in a while, but maybe @"AndrewPalombo" can shed some light on the subject...
