What's the Perfect Soap Size?

I was wondering what your thoughts are when it comes to soap size. 

Our soaps come in a 5 oz jar and they're filled right to the top.  We've received many comments asking us to reduce the amount of soap in the jar to leave some room for loading and we've also received many comments thanking us for filling the jar to the top as the soap will eventually be used up giving more space for loading.

So, what's your favourite combination of jar size and soap quantity?

Leave room! That's my opinion. I personally don't like lather going over.

My first reaction is 7oz in an 8oz container, but I have Catie's LMR and there must be 9oz in there and its filled right to the top. The lather does not go everywhere as much as I thought. I like the wide and low tins that PAA uses for their 8oz... it makes for easier stacking and lathering is a breeze.

My favorite jars out of all commercially available are the ones B&M and MLS are using, they are 6 ounces low profile and extra wide, filled half way, still plenty of soap. I am seriously considering them for my tallow formula.

I think that this is one of those six of one, half-dozen of another type questions where you'll find some people falling on both sides of the issue. Here are my thoughts.

Soap Commander leaves lots of room and although I love Soap Commander's shea butter soaps, I think that the containers take up too much room . This becomes an issue for those of us who like buying shave soaps just to try.

Catie's Bubbles fills right to the top. This isn't an issue for me, but means I spend a few seconds gathering proto-lather that spills over to the side of the container. I'm always amazed at how much soap is actually in the container.

Maggard Razor and Tiki Bar use the same size container as Catie's Bubbles but leave some room at the top without running into the problem that Soap Commander has.

PAA's large, 5" tinr is really too large. Although I can hold it in my hand, it's a bit of a stretch. Along the same line, the 3" tin that WSP uses with their rustic line is really on the small size. The Goldilocks size is the 4" tin that Dr. Jon and Mike's Natural use. Despite being easy to stack and having an "old time" vibe, the downside of tins is they are easily dented by the retailer, delivery or home user.

RazoRock does a good job of making a good smaller container that fits the hand well and leaves some room at the top.

I liked the old Mama Bears container. Mystic Waters uses the same 3" double-walled PET low profile container.

I'll have to second what SoapSmooth said. The MLS and B&M jars are perfect for loading soap. They are nice and wide but also have a lower profile, which makes them easy to stack/store.

A lot of great comments.   Need to keep these in mind for my next production run!

My B&M soaps date back to when they were wrapped and I have yet to try a Mickey Lee soap - I'll need to step up my game.

Now that's quite some time indeed. Mickey Lee is some really phenomenal stuff, though. I highly recommend giving them a try.
