Picked up a brass Blackbird from Shane on his clearance and I have to wonder……why clearance?  I suppose stainless is more to Mose guys liking and perhaps titanium fits a premium slot but I like brass and have wanted a Blackbird for several years now.  Just too wrapped up in other things I suppose and the reported heavy blade feel frankly had me waiting for a screaming deal before I risked it.  First things first, clearance pricing is a screaming deal and POW.  2) as I was on the site Shane has a return policy so I wouldn’t have been stuck.  Chalk another piece of evidence that I am not Jolene’s brightest boy (and she has some dummies).  Ok, the razor is not quite how I would have liked it in that I have a 101mm handle where an 85 would suit me better.  Not a real issue really because my Merkur Futur which I really like has a handle that long.  The Blackbird head is just so trim though that I think the shorter handle would be more esthetically pleasing and how I normally hold a razor would be better suited to shorter.  Perhaps I’ll have one of the machinists fix me up but more likely I will just use this one happily.  What it is:  very attractive  machine finished high end razor.  It has a pretty significant blade reveal.  I don’t know what the term is but the edge of the blade is proud from the safety bar.  It’s well designed and the machinist knows his trade.  It’s superbly packaged in classic black.  It’s brass, so it’ll weather like brass which for me is a good thing.  What it’s not:  Although there is blade feel it is not harsh but it’ll make you sit upon the saddle and keep your boots tucked into the stirrups.  It’s angular without any felt sharp edges.  Is I loaded it with a brand new personna lab blue and went to work.  Blade feel, you bet but not shocking nor alarming. Two days grey whiskers fell to very light pressure.  He razor is a bit head heavy but I generally like that.  It was a comfortable shave with enough blade to remind me to be alert.  Two passes and wow was i smooth.  I thought a new razor would leave a bit of burn with the alum I use after a new razor but nope, no sting at all.  Glad I pulled the trigger on this one.
