I shave with a Feather SS replaceable blade straight razor, but I use a DE for touch-up on certain parts around the mouth and on the neck as needed.
Yesterday evening I decided to break out a DE I haven't used in FOREVER, a really clean F4 Fatboy.
I've been drooling over a Toggle for about a decade, and all the talk about the Janus just fueled that fire. But as I looked at the Fatboy yesterday evening, I realized that the actual business end of the razor is very similar (though I know not exactly the same) as that of a Toggle. And I remembered how I found this thing, cased and in near-perfect condition, at a "hoarder-house" of an antique store that looked like it had nothing. After failing to find anything, I asked the owner if he had any double edge razors. He literally found this thing buried under a bunch of other stuff, pulled it out and said, "Just this thing."
I looked it over and found that everything was pretty much perfect, including the final quarter-turn. I tried to act calm and like I wasn't impressed with it. I tried to keep the smile off my face. Then I asked him, "How much do you want for this?"
He kinda looked around. He was obviously making something up off the top of his head. Finally, he said, "Fifteen?" I pretended like I had to think about it for a few seconds, and then I said, "Sold," gave him a $20, got my $5 change, and walked out to my car, still suppressing my smile. When I got into the car and started to pull away, I literally broke out into laughter.
Anyway, so I loaded that baby up last night with a German Wilkie blade, and used it this morning for clean-up. Nice! I had forgotten how good a razor this is for me.
Happy Father's Day, everybody!
