I'm getting boring in my age, perhaps. Lol.

Again, I shaved with the Rockwell 6s plate 2 (cleanup 4). It's just too comfortable and smooth. Cleanup with plate 4 (flip side) allows for a DFS+ efficiency without any issues. I could probably get rid of all the others and be just happy.

I did try a new soap, fwiw. So I'm not totally stagnant.

mrdoug, for hot summer shaving a Rockwell 6S with baseplate 2 (baseplate 4 for the tough spots) is my favorite setup, too. Mild enough for a comfortable three-pass shave even on a sweltering morning. I'm using a Feather blade most of the time, but I also like a Gilette Silver Blue since it will last quite a while.

On a related note, how did you end up liking your Karve? I've been looking at the brass Christopher Bradley with C plate. Does that combo offer anything I'm not already getting from my Rockwell with its assortment of baseplates?

Plate 5 is my sweet spot.

I find plate 4 to be so much smoother....but plate 5 really does a great job in terms of efficiency.  Unfortunately, that particular blade should have been thrown out after the last use...ended up with several nicks on this shave

This was an extraordinary shave. It is really hard to beat the Rockwell 6S for smoothness especially when you change plates to a lower number between each pass. I had smooth on steroids as I applied Grooming Dept Pre-Shave before the first and second passes. It did not hurt that the soap I used, Declaration Grooming/Chatillon Lux Yuzu Rose Patchouli (with 2 drops of Folgate Lavender Essential Oil from Martha Lane Lavender Farm in Sequim, Washington) is also top shelf. Smooth on smooth on smooth.

And to address the question Bouki poses above, the Christopher Bradley brass SB is really a higher level of craftsmanship with its CNC machining done by a craftsman versus the Rockwell's metal injection molding process performed in a factory (which I now believe may be in China). I think the Karve is an extraordinary value. If I had to choose between a Rockwell 6S and Karve, as a general proposition, I would choose the Karve because it is more precise. One final thought--you can also get the Karve plates in open comb making it an extremely flexible system. Given the low pricing of each Karve plate, I opted to buy all of the SB plates then available--so I have AA through F. The one plate of marginal value is the AA (like the Rockwell plate 1)--I use all of the rest regularly.

One advantage the Rockwell 6S has is that it is built like a tank versus the Karve brass which I think can be damaged more readily.

All that said, the Karve with just a C plate is somewhat similar to the Rockwell, say a 3 plate. Similar but not the same.

I would not give up either razor.

You could probably do better with some more experience.  (That's a joke you lather making machine).  And yes, feather can go three and out with me too. Love the sharpness.  Longevity leaves something to be desired.

Sorry I didn't see your post earlier Bouki.

Personally, I had issue with the Karve being smooth enough. There is definitely some wizardry to get it to feel the way it does. But I found, time after time, that when I got to that ever sensitive ATG pass I could really feel that wider gap.

For example, the B is neutral with .75 gap. It'll feel smoother, maybe like a Rockwell 3 (.48). But the ATG still felt like I was using a r5 (.69). Tight clamping, angles, voodoo... Whatever, it can only take you so far.

That's my experience, anyway. I ended up selling the Karve. I'm just happier with the 6s (and 6c as a back-up).

Oops, let me also say the Karve provides a whole lot more options as far as further agression. However, you really can't do smoother than a 3/5 imo. When you drop to the A plate, it has a negative exposure making it a chore to get a close shave. You're better off grabbing a Rockwell if the B is too agressive for any given day.
