Well, I will be sending out a couple of vintage GEM SE razors to be tested against modern GEM SE razors this weekend, so I went ahead and had myself an SE shave, before I send them both out.
I used my GEM G-Bar last night with a GEM PTFE coated stainless blade that is at least a month old, if not much older, and has been used an untold, uncounted, and thoroughly unknown number of times. I picked up the razor, and was actually surprised to see a blade in it. So I opened the top cap, rinsed the blade under hot water, palm stropped it, and had a shave.
Believe it or not, this ancient, uncared-for, and truly abused blade shaved just as clean and comfortably as a new one. This thing had at least 6-7 shaves on it, and has been sitting in a closed razor for at least a month since the last time I used it. I still can;t believe how easily and comfortably it shaved. I'm very impressed!
