I couldn't stomach that one. Smelled like my dogs breath after she vomits.

As I said, polarizing. Smile Thats why a broad selection in products is so wonderful, there's truly something for everyone. I happen to really like that one a lot.

Scent is very personal and its often hard to determine whether you would like a fragrance from reading the descriptions online. For example, I'm not a big fan of traditional "barbershop" scents (although I do like my barbershop) but I tried Stirling Soap's barbershop soap and I love it. So what if I'm wrong about other barbershop scents? Just what I need, an excuse to buy more soap.

I haven't found a vetiver shaving soap or cream that I really love...yet.

I love Zegna's Haitian Vetiver EdP.

For soap, this one is easy. I am a bit obsessive with fragrances and the only vetiver soap I've ever tried (and I want to emphasize "THE ONLY" - the one I haven't tried that might also do so is Creed's Original Vetiver) that properly replicates the smell of vetiver is Barrister & Mann's Vetyver Santal. Actually, to be completely honest, I was blown away by this scent, since the vetiver and sandalwood oils used in this soap are clearly very high quality. I was using a sample and didn't purchase it at the time since I had hard water (and the original B&M base didn't lather as easily under hard water conditions), however now that I have a water softener I am kicking myself for not purchasing it. The original base is AWESOME if you have relatively soft water - I can see why so many of you love it. I still prefer the Glissant base (which is a wonderful improvement IMO), but the scent of Vetyver Santal still calls to me. It is most unfortunate that it was discontinued. I'd have loved to see this particular scent come out in the Glissant base, even if only as a limited edition product.

As for vetiver fragrances, I love a wide range of them. My absolute favorite (and the pinnacle of the genre IMO) is Roja Dove's Vetiver Extrait. Pricey, but magnificent and so worth it for me. For fresh citrusy vetivers, I enjoy Creed's Original Vetiver. Haitian Vetiver by Zegna gets my pick for dry, slightly nutty vetivers. And for a vetiver that is actually a mix of a couple of different varieties (not solely Haitian), Frederic Malle's Vetiver Extraordinaire is beautiful.

NeoXerxes if you lobby Will at Barrister & Mann enough and other people do too (I would throw my support behind such an initiative) he might plan a LE of the Vetyver Santal.  I have it and quite like it.  I know that Will was responsive to people clamouring for a LE of Roam so why not Vetyver Santal?  IMO Vetyver Santal is a nicer fragrance than Roam.  Roam is unique but not something you would want every day, Vetyver Santal I could do every day.

Thanks for your input - I have a hidden agenda in starting this thread.  I love vetiver but I haven't tried all that many and I'm not even aware of some.  This thread has been very educational for me.
Thanks,
Mark
