Reason I ask.... I have tried some vegan soaps, from two different artisans, and I get a real bad burning and irritation on my skin.  Any of my tallow base options or company manufacture  soaps or creams I don't get any irritation.

What is the differing ingredient that I must be allergic to in Vegan based soaps?  I don't think it is the fragrance because over four different fragrances I get the same burn....   I'd like to figure it out so I can avoid this problem.

Thank you for any insight!

The variation of ingredients is going depend on which artisan/brand of soap you're referring to. If you could let us know which brands you're talking about we might be able to offer more help.

It's rare to have a burning sensation on ingredients instead of fragrance, but it's possible. Not likely, but could be a bad batch that still has uncooked lye. In even rarer instances you might have a reaction to large amount of stearic acid, I actually know someone personally that has that.

I have tried two scents from WSP. Chiseled Face soap also burned, I hadn't realized it was a tallow soap, however the top ingredient in their list is Steric acid. It's sad because the scents are awesome, and the soaps performs great. Just that it burns my skin for some reason...

Maybe it is the Steric. I believe it is listed number one, or at least very high, on the ingredient lists.

Also to add, I use Sterling shave soaps as well, steric acid is #2 in their ingredient list.  I have no issues with these soaps....    Maybe it is something in the fragrances?  stumped. Dodgy

All the soaps I have used with no problems...

Arko stick
Speick stick
TOBS cream (Sandalwood and Mr Taylors)
Sterling (Sandalwood, Sharp dressed man, Port-au-Prince, Bayrum, Pinuad)

Soaps that gave me problems...

WSP (Veviter, Gaelic tweed)
Chiseled face (Ghost town barber, Summer storm)

It's almost certainly something in the fragrances. Maybe try an unscented soap?

Thank you, but I was trying to nail down what is causing the issue as the other products I use are scented nice, some very strongly as well, yet give no problems.

One other observation I had as well. The WSP Veviter and Gaelic Tweed have very lovely fragrance, however to me, they seemed very light and mild. The scent also dissipated very quickly.... Yet these gave the worst of the irritation to the skin.

I didn't make myself clear. Try an unscented soap (if either manufacturer offers one) to serve as a baseline in order to determine if it's something in the soap itself. Then go from there.

Honestly, my guess is that you're allergic to either dihydromyrcenol or ethylene brassylate (two of the so-called "laundry musks"), both of which are present in Gaelic Tweed and I believe in the Vetiver and Summer Storm fragrances as well. I generally avoid such scents for that reason.

Ahh yes. I understand. Thank you much!

The Chiseled Face web site indicates the scent notes in Summer Storm are: moist earth, oak moss, cut grass, pine needles, orange, lemon, ozone, white jasmine, lily of the valley, geranium and musk.  Some people are sensitive to oak moss. My skin is very sensitive to lemon, so I have avoided this CF soap. I have no idea whether the musk might be an issue, but the post above indicates that possibility.

WSP Gaelic Tweed lists scent notes of lemon verbena top notes, an iris & violet leaf heart with a sandalwood & ambergris base. I do not have an issue with this scent, so I have no idea what you might be sensitive to.

WSP Vetiver lists scent notes of Lemon, florals, sandalwood, patchouli, musk, and vetiver, plus there is a note that the scent contains cinnamon. I already noted my sensitivity to lemon. Plus I am also highly sensitive to cinnamon. Thus, this is a scent I would avoid.
