What do you do for a living?

Been cool getting to know a little about all of you fine people. 

I am starting my third career at 35. First started at 16, worked my way up to Chef at a small Bistro “Love/Hate” needed time for the Love of my life. Second, Textile Rental (uniforms, table cloths, ect.) Loved my job until the economy 08 really started changing the industry. Held in as long as I could but it ended up killing my back and taking me away from my family. So I have now put all my chips on the table and have invested in myself. I will be starting my own Home Inspection business in Phoenix AZ. Just waiting on the State to give me a number and I’m a go.

I'm in IT, and have been since 1998. I currently work for a contracting company on a long term contract with USPS. I support web application servers.

Obviously, I also make soap professionally, which currently takes up about as much time as a part-time second job.

I'm currently an Operations Manager for a manufacturer in the music industry. Also, owner of The Shave Mercantile.

Needless to say, time management is a necessity ; )

For even longer than that (13 yrs) I have been a marching percussion instructor... no real money in it, i just do it because I love working with youth. 2 years ago I went back to school and am pursuing a degree in Youth Ministry.

I taught marching percussion for a number of years as well.

I'm an IT systems architect. I've been a 50% owner of my company since 2001 and employ a number of folks as well as myself. It all started out in the late 80s running a bulletin board (BBS) and then this internet thing started. I was one of the first BBS that gave people internet addresses for email. People barely used it. That hobby became a job with a few "Hey you know computers right? I'm having this problem....".

I've been very happy ever since. Stressful, late nights, constant learning and re-testing over and over and over again, yet I would do it all again in a heartbeat.

sweet. how complex do your designs get?

I"m retired now but have done a number of things. Spent 30 years in the military, retiring as a CWO4 (electronics). Then went to work at Lockheed Martin in the training department for a short time. Made a big switch and became a locksmith and did that for 10+ years. Made another big switch and went to work for the local city government in the finance department.

Now I'm waiting for our retirement home to be finished and then will play in the garden and with our chickens. Life is really good

sweet.  how complex do your designs get?

It all depends on the client, but I've had a few that did span the globe, with major data centers in each continent.  Usually, we like to focus on small to medium businesses out here though, as they seem to provide an adequate challenge with projects that actually finish at their end times.  Everything from 50 seat law offices to multi-branch municipalities of about 800 seats.
