I wonder how you can single out 5 soap bases? No matter how I tried, I get at least 20-30. Perhaps you are forgetting about many very worthy manufacturers. We must remember all of them. All of them bring a little joy and pleasure into our life. Good luck to all of them in their hard work. May they delight us more and more.

  • Tabac
  • Mitchells Wool Fat
  • RazoRock's "Super Tallow Formula" in various scents
  • First Canadian Shave Soap Co. - the early stuff. I haven't tried the current stuff.
  • Proraso croaps. I avoid the White, but only because of the scent
I had some Omega soap in a generic container piffed to me, but I think it must have been a version before they added the eucalyptus scent. It was really nice.

Are creams eligible? The Body Shop shaving creams (all 3 generations of them) are pretty slick. I just wish they had some choice of scents. The third generation smells okay.

I can't keep up and don't want to try. There are just too many brands and bases. With that in mind, in no particular order:

1. PAA CK-6. After years of steering clear of PAA soaps I tried one recently and love it. It's everything I could ask for in a soap.

2. Soap Commander. For years I've been using their products and am always really happy with them. Their soaps are excellent, their aftershaves, their balms. And great people.

3.  Martin de Candre.  I love the pared down ingredients. The scents are superb. So is the performance. Pricey but they last and last and last.

4.  Arko/Derby.  The soaps everyone loves to hate. I like the scent! It's Ivory Soap with a shot of lemon. I get a great, slick, cushiony lather and the price is great.

5. Haslinger.  Wow. Just wow. Weak in the scent department but the lather is first rate and the price is right. I can't say Haslinger is my favorite. But if I had to choose just one soap, this might be my pick.

I looked on Chicago Grooming Co website.  Everything is sold out.  Are they still in business?

And if I find some, do you have a recommended scent?
