PAA drives me nuts (the names and labels, not the product)!   It is like the girl in high school who you hated, but were attracted to.   I am thinking, "what the Hell is that graphic about to eat the reindeer"?  Why did they do that? And what does that name mean?   Well, I did the research and discovered the graphic is an outline of "Christmas Island" and the name "Kiritimati" is "Christmas" transliterated into the local language.  Why am I doing this?  Why do I care?   Why can't I just walk away?

I hear you.  I did the same “research “ when I first got it. Who can understand the mysteries of naming and branding? Marketing is psychological warfare. If it was named aftershave with the following scent notes you might think, hmm, sounds nice, maybe me buy it. Give it a mysterious name with a whole story behind it and you’re drawn in on an emotional level and then your zombie brain says must have brains, or Kiritimati as the case may be.

I hate being manipulated. I hate it when women do it to me, and I hate it when aftershave manufactures do it to me. Obviously, I have issues.

So my understanding is there was something years back salacious with Doug regarding PAA. I wasn't interested in the kurfuffle. But I tried his Honeysuckle years back. Great puck - and his CK6 is way better and a top tier base imho. His afs and balms are right in my wheelhouse. Love the bottles and caps. The Cavendish, 4711, Barbershops, clubman, and bays are the best. The marketing as Marko elaborated on is fascinating for me. I was born in 1961, and grew up watching Jonny Quest and Star trek - making his stuff very nostalgic for me. It piques my memory banks and does actually make me laugh. I bought his Douglas fir this year and got backup pux of his 4711 homage. Very inerstin' company. Quite innovative. The bay rums are outstanding.

As for the history, it is best that you do your own research and then decide whether to give this vendor your business. It is very risky to discuss unpleasant things on a shaving forum. Putting that aside, PAA products are highly competent. I particularly like the way that they have accurately re-created some of the homage products like Seaforth! I am old enough to remember the originals (upmarket versions of Old Spice) and they are very accurate, maybe even better than the originals. However, I disagree with their product concept "bridging the gap between aftershaves and colognes" . For me, the A/S are just too strong to use as a splash. People have made comments to me about my aftershave when I am still five feet away, or when they walk into the room. In today's fragrance sensitive work/school/social environments it is just not acceptable. I keep a small bottle of their Seaforth homage at the gym to dab behind my ears after a shower. It pretty much works like an EDP or EDP. Just too strong to use as an aftershave.
