We need a car/automotive section

I wanted an entire "automotive" header. But this may suffice. But it could be soo much more.....

Well, gee, thanks a lot!  All kidding aside, a separate header would be up to Andrew (andrewjs18) as he is the administrator.  All I could do as a moderator is move the thread to a more logical place.  I even wanted a writing instruments header (you know, fountain pens, inks, papers, etc.) but Andrew felt he didn't want to overload the site.

I did my best.

I can show you my modified 2000 Ford Ranger that I've been driving since 2006. It just rolled over 213,000 miles last week and still runs like a champ. The damn rust is starting to take its toll. It still looks pretty good for its age though.

I have a picture of the odometer of my 96 Ranger. It rolled over to 166666 while I was driving down the interstate. I dont know if you have ever tried this, but I will just say it is very difficult. I admit texting and driving is bad, but this is worse. Dont do as I do. I will post a pic of it when I find it, and will tag you in it.

I liked my little 2wd Ranger, but I was too big for it. It had the 8 plug 4 cyl, 5 speed. It was like a motorized wheel barrow. Teeny tiny tires and all. Got really crappy mileage for a good running in-tune 4 cyl. But I have to admit, it kept me safe. Just before Superbowl in spring 2013 I drove it from Cheyenne Wy back to Ogden Ut on I-80. The wind was so bad that deicer mist and spray from the oncoming traffic (50 yards away) would coat my windshield. Just past Laramie the interstate turned to a glazed doughnut. I was sideways in both directions twice. Using the rumblestrip for traction, I drove the rest of the way doing about 35 mph in 4th gear. Every time I touched the gas, it kicked sideways. The wind helped blow me sideways off the interstate too. It makes my hands sweat just recounting that trip. I have pictures of a trucker hauling tanks that was pulling doubles going through a pass, and took it too fast. The rear tank caught and rolled as the front tank and truck laid on its side and skid for about 100 yards. They already had the crane there lifting it back onto the wheels.

I literally prayed for 10 hours. Its about a 5 hr trip.

Thats why I like my big Limo. It gets used when conditions are the worst, the load is too big, or everything is just plain miserable, and its always there to do what I ask of it. I've towed cars on trailers, campers, etc cross country with it. Never gets better than 10 mpg.

Its all good Freddy, I was just poking at you. I knew you could take it. We dont always get what we want.

That's quite the story olschoolsteel! I have a few as well as I've driven through many snow and ice storms in my little truck. Mine is also the 4-banger 5-speed. It used to suck in the winter until I lowered it and got snow tires. Now it drives great in the snow unless it gets too deep. Here's a couple pictures from earlier tonight.

Here is a shot of the accident I encountered just at the end of the worst road trip of my life. They already had the second rear tanker picked up from the oncoming side of the Interstate. As you can see they had 2 massive wreckers there trying to pick up the second tank and the truck. You can see the witness marks on the asphalt where the tanker wheels/rims started to dig in.
