On one forum I was on, the policy was not to "poop on other people's BST threads" so to speak... Such as the "price policing" seen in this thread. In the case of obvious gouging, if it was a member that wasn't really a participant in the forum, the thread would get deleted. But that was a higher-end photo forum with hella expensive gear. Of course, each forum is as different as its members, so "YMMV."

I might suggest just ignoring such posts going forward. They'll quickly drop down the main page and disappear.

I won't get into the debate on whether he should or shouldn't be able to post here.

Of course, I have other hobbies. In another hobby, I sold an item via a board similar to this one. I had three other items associated with the original that I paid $50 for which were selling for $200 a piece at the time on eBay.

I made the decision that the guys on the forum should get special treatment as we all try to help the other and become Internet friends. There are a definite group of us on that forum that always discount anything we sell on the forum. I offered the items to the forum at my cost and feel good about that.

In line with the OPs comment about selling below cost, I will also say that people will screw you. I was new in this other hobby, which is much more complicated than wet shaving. I used 'Blue Book' pricing for that hobby and offered a different item for about half of its value and lost about $350. The cockroaches came out of the woodwork to buy it for half price.

It was too late for that sale, but a more experienced guy sent me a private message letting me know what the item was worth and offered to help me with pricing.

Hey Pete, was it coins? People like to do that on coins. Its weird how different forums and collections have different expectations. On the watch forum you get good deals cause stuff is used. But no one will throw you a bone and sell for way under market value. Same with cycling forums. I don't know why shaving is different and people expect to pay less because they have the same hobby and want a discount.

Either way, to those of you who sell high end items below market value, I commend you. I truly do. But I will always sell at market.

No, not coins. The hobby I was referring to is firearms. One of the rules on this forum is to avoid talking about weapons, so I was being a little cryptic to respect that.

I wouldn't say lawless, maybe less law. I love that we don't have rules around here like to post something for sale you have to include the retail price, and conversation here can go freely both ways.

If I could have bought 5 wolfmans knowing the the secondary market would allow me to make $200 profit each I would have gladly done so and pit that straight into my kids college account. I'm not sure why people are concerned about what other people do with their money.
