Vodka Water

Those of you who know me know I imbibe from time to time

A friend of mine just turned me on to Vodka Waters. Oddly enough I had never heard of them before. He made me one the other night and called it the 'poor man' version: Pint class with ice, 1.5oz vodka, fill the rest with water and add a couple drops of lemon juice.

I enjoyed it but I felt it needed some tweaking, so when I got home I made a new one with Burnett's Lemon vodka, ice, water, and a few dashes of Rose's Sweet Lime Juice. Pretty tasty. It's a very refreshing drink and I imagine I'll be drinking plenty of them when the weather is a bit warmer!

Some recipes online get a little more elaborate with Mandarin wedges, orange and lime juice, etc.

My Grandma used to drink whisky and water all the time. Gross! We all had one in honor of her at her funeral wake. Never had a vodka water but it seems like a better idea than whisky. I did used to drink vodka gimlets sometimes, but they started to give me heartburn so no more after that! If I do drink, I just stick with beer and the odd shot of bourbon here and there.

Completely agree- I have a very strong reaction to scents and flavors taking me back to people and experiences.

As to the Vodka water, I recently picked up a bottle of Deep Eddy Lemon Vodka [the distillery is just a couple miles from my house].

It is extraordinarily good even on the rocks for a flavored vodka IMHO; not usually my thing.

I took some and mixed with HEB Carbonated Coconut water, muddled some fresh basil, squeeze of lime and lime zest on the rim of a rocks glass. Outstanding!

Note: the HEB is a grocery store brand here. Similar to La Croix but more carbonation. And less expensive.

I'll keep my eye open for some Deep Eddy, not sure if it's available in my area.

@TheHandleBar, I know it may sound weird to some, but I love coconut water too. One of my favorite beverages for sure!

I LOVE coconut, but I do not like coconut water at all. when I was vacationing in Puerto Rico last year, I tried some....nasty!

Vodka, seltzer, lemon, lime is my go to when there isn't a drink menu. I ordered it a few months ago at a VFW post though and they acted like it was the most complicated drink they ever made. It helps me stay hydrated (especially compared to the sugary drinks I'll usually order off a drink menu).
