Both though more so with vintage than new razors since I currently only own 2 modern DE razors a Rex Ambassador and Merkur Progress. I used to have a large collection but downsized most of it and outside the few collectables and stragglers. I've settled on a rotation of mainly my 46 - 48 Gillette Aristocrat, 1947 rookie card Gillette Super Speed, Famex caged guard adjustables along with the Rex.

I know the Ambassador is a good razor but add a slant design to it, I don't know. I've owned quite a few slants through the years and never took to any of them. I never felt they brought anything to the table I couldn't do technique wise with a regular razor.

To me it was just much more of a smoother shaver than the ambassador and very efficient for me. Like I said I think you will enjoy the razor not so much for a slant feature but just the razor itself.(07-21-2022, 02:55 PM)Dave in KY Wrote:(07-21-2022, 02:53 PM)BBS Wrote: Both though more so with vintage than new razors since I currently only own 2 modern DE razors a Rex Ambassador and Merkur Progress. Regarding Slants; no one can do like Hoffritz did it. ATT is the closest, pass on all the rest, been there done all of them, I’m current
Only one I can think of that is "new" would be the Lambda Athena. I've never seen a vintage with sidepipe exhaust.
Are there vintage adjustables like a Sailor?
Your point is taken, but there may be a couple of exceptions.

When they designed B&R adjustable (ancestor of Sailor), I think they used Merkur Progress design to build the razor.
Sailor is highly looking like Merkur Progress, Apollo Micron etc.
But still I like Sailor more than Progress, because it holds blade more securely, looks more luxurious, and has better handle.
Most of the new DE razors are like that, but I think they shave better than their ancestors.

We could probably go down a list and begin comparison however, free styling, those 2 are uniquely firsts.(07-21-2022, 03:47 PM)ExtraProtein Wrote: Repeating what I heard… there aren’t any new razors, there are better built modern razors off the original vintage.

Bringing an adjustable into this discussion opens a can of worms best left to the technical mind. Mine is not technical. Describe each part to me perhaps I can draw it?……. but the engines inside that make it all come together, no. Building an adjustable razor that works AND on par with the brilliance of King Camp Gillette is no easy task. The complexity and the costs…..Don’t quit your day job if you’re building an adjustable
Murat, Hassan AND Theodoros created something special
A couple short years ago, you Gentlemen here financed the “DFStarter” Janus Campaign to life. Replicating King Gillette’s toggle and improving on the original designs proved very difficult based on the Campaign Thread. Only those who pledged the campaign can give an accurate opinion on whether “in that case” is it Vintage or New that prevailed?

I haven't. It is hard to find, and they are mostly expensive.
Mikron, Ben Hur, Rasimat, Walbusch have similar head profiles.
Honestly, I don't expect they gonna shave better than Rocnel.
