Thanks to a recent trade with 1MorePassWill, I received a bottle of Village Barber shave oil and a bottle of their balm. I'd never used any shave oil before, but I tried it tonight. I put a little in my palm, used it only on the difficult areas (neck, bottom of chin) then lathered with Soap Commander Inspiration, broke out the Kai Standard with a Feather Super, and got a weeper-free, wonderful shave. I then put a tiny bit more on my neck for the money pass, and my neck is BBS and irritation free. When this sample runs out I am ordering a bottle of this bad boy. And the balm is wonderful too.

Anyone like any other shave oils? I see that Floid makes one (though, if they discontinue the Blue I'm boycotting Floid), Maggard's has a house brand, etc. but I think I'm inclined to stick with Village Barber, it's just that good.

Thanks Will.

I have been using Prairie Creations Pre-Shave Oil for quite a few years and really like it. I have also used Burt's Bees Lemon & Vitamin-E oil and American Crew Shave Oil. All do a very nice job for me but Prairie Creations is the one I use most often.

eshave who I think are a NY based company have a pre shave oil in lots of different scents. I was using their Lime Verbena scent oil for my last touch up pass before I started using the Village Barber stuff.

I wonder if there's much difference between pre shave oil and beard oil.

aside from the top secret pre-shave oil from walmart, I've only ever used this one that Teiste posted about a while ago:

3/4 oz castor oil
1/4 oz extra virgin olive oil
essential oil
