Users of only one Razor/Blade/Brush/Soap, what is your Razor/Blade/Brush/Soap..

Iamsms, When I started on this shaving journey, after nailing down technique, I used many razors and still have them. But I've pretty much decided on which ones I like and for the longest time that was the ER '24 SE razor with a GEM SS ptfe blade in it. For soap I use my products despite having a cabinet full of soaps from other makers. Brushes, OK you have me there. I have 30 or so and every shave brings the next one in the queue up for use.

After realizing that I was using one razor for a year or so I am making a major effort to use my other razors as well. The plan is to use up a blade in them, each in turn. But a SE blade for me lasts for 20+ shaves. Plenty of time to get reacquainted with a razor. Currently I'm using a GEM MMOC and i have 7 or so shaves on the blade in it.

I can't remember the last time I used a soap other than mine.

Soap/cream: Got too many and they're all good - TOBS, DRHarris, Captain's Choice, RazoRock, Kiss My Face. If I had to choose one, it'd be a crap shoot.

Razors: My two faves are Wunderbar (DE) and Mongoose (SE) for the bourgeois in me; German 37 (DE) and Hawk (SE) for my proleteriat side.

Blades: Feather all the way.

The one thing that I have been using only one of is DE blades: Wizamet Iridium Super (for six years, now) and unrefined shea butter (as a moisturizer, for 15 years now).
Everything else is ever-changing. However, I mainly use my Weber DLCs and Blackbird Polished for DE razors and Mystic Water soaps.

I am currently going back and forth between KAI and Wizamet Iridium Super. For me these two are above and beyond any other blade I have tried.

I primarily use Blackbird Machined and 34C, only Timeless left to try.

Since I have just started out here. I only have one Edwin Jagger razor, and one "suspect" brush. I am using Van der Hagen soap that I assume will last me quite awhile. I do really like the smell though. Really clean and bright.

Awesome! Think of the record-keeping that went into it...

Record keeping is really easy. About 50 seconds everyday to fill up ~20 columns. It actually helps figure out which stuff I really like and which I like only during the honeymoon period. I thought about creating an app but too lazy to do that.

I currently have 3 heads & 4 handles, but I pretty much always use the Edwin Jagger head on the Maggard MR14 (aluminum) handle.

Oh, and I have a big batch of Wilkinson Sword blades that work pretty well with the EJ head, so I've forbidden myself to buy anymore until I use them up.

The fancy SOTD photos are fun to look and I think that hooks the young guys.

I am a 'young guy', but what hooked me into buying plethora of shaving items was what you mentioned already : expectation of a better, comfortable luxurious shave.

Most gents agreed keeping the den lean resulted in better shaves.

I started this 'hobby' (the old gardener in me is reluctant to call buying and using a hobby) for the sole purpose of getting better shaves. I am from a distant land, living through the cold winters of New Jersey. My winter shaves were horrible with Canned Gels and Cartridge razors (and electric razors). So google search of 'how to get better shaves around your neck' led me to traditional shaving. (I for one do not relish the traditional/old-style aspect of shaving one bit - I would rather live in 2017 than 1960s).

What I have observed in last two years is varying razors give me the most inconsistent shaves followed by blades and soaps. I can pretty much use any brush and get good shave so my variation is towards brushes as well and to some extent soaps/creams.

So I agree completely with the statement that those who are prone to bad shaves, should keep their den lean.
