Use 2 razors for 2 passes in 1 shave?

Hi all - I'm new to this (coming from carts) but am learning about blade gaps, variable/adjustable razors, and 2- & 3-pass shaves. Wondering if anyone uses different razors, with different gaps, for first, second, third pass in a single shave? Too many rabbit holes here!

Haha, you are correct. Lots of rabbit holes to fall down. To your question of whether any of us use more than one razor during a shave and you will find the answer to be yes. I know I've used an open comb to knock down several days of whiskers and finished with a mild razor. I've been known to keep a Gillette tech loaded and ready to clean up under my nose (the head is so thin). I have changed settings on my adjustables during a shave both from wide open to mild and from mild to aggressive throughout the passes. But I've pretty well settled in to using one razor for all three (or two) passes and focusing more on angles and feel.

I have always used one razor for all three passes. It keeps things nice and simple.

Thanks - it does seem like one razor and learning the proper technique so you know what you're doing with each pass would be the way to go - that gives me hope :-)

For example, I would use my more aggressive razor, like a BBS-1 or Muhle R41, and do a against the grain first pass and then use a mild razor, such as the Razorock MJ90 for a second with the grain pass and be done with it. But this is not a necessity as I was trying to get as much efficiency done for my first pass (beard removal) and then go for more of a polishing pass or the following pass to clean off any remaining stubble but with more attention to move across the skin with care. My face doesn't do well with more than 2 passes. A little cleanup here and there is okay but first pass for my face is the most important.

No, but I have two dual comb Wolfmans with different blade gaps to do just this. I use the more aggressive OC side of the head for the first pass and the less aggressive SB side for subsequent passes. So, it's sort of like using two razors, but combined into one. It works pretty well.

of course! That's why I've seen some dual comb razors .... something else to look for now :-)

I have several razors that are dual comb and I use the Open comb side for my first WTG pass then switch to the solid bar side for my XTG and ATG passes. I also use my adjustables with my first pass being on a more aggressive setting then dial it down for each additional pass.
