Respectfully, what is the appeal of a razor that does not allow you to control the shaving angle for an experienced wet shaver? I get it that sometimes you are in a hurry an maybe a razor with a pivoting head gets you out the door quickly, but for every shave?
Maybe I am missing something.
I have a Proof Whiskey Pivoting head razor. It uses half a de blade and is aluminum (they have had a few brass runs).
It is not my main shaver, even though I would call it an excellent razor. As a pivoting head razor it requires a different technique than a fixed head de safety razor. Pressure and angle are very different.
It is easy, fast, non-irritating, close (DFS close, not BBS close), forgiving. Sometimes I need that or want that.
But I totally agree about “what is the appeal”. As a craft, wet shaving has skill and involvement that brings satisfaction and accomplishment. This part is lacking with the Proof Whiskey, and I suspect from this plastic pivoting razor and the Leaf razor as well. I very much enjoy a classic DE shave more and am also learning to enjoy a Kamisori style Shavette even more fore the same reason (in spite of the head wounds

).
However, I am super glad to have the Proof Whiskey in my quiver. It is totally a keeper and I would recommend it to anyone. This plastic pivoting razor may play a similar roll for some.
