Underrated Shaving Stuff

I am very surprised that nobody has mentioned Van der Hagen soaps.

In my humble opinion, VDH Deluxe and Luxury soaps are simply fantastic beginner soaps. They load and lather incredibly easy, and provide great slickness and protection. For someone new, just starting out, you can get the VDH Deluxe kit for less than $10, and it comes with a palm bowl, boar brush, and puck of soap. All 3 products are fantstic introductions, in my opinion, and perform well enough to stay in the den alongside all the artisan "stuff" we all accumulate along the way...

Seriously, you can get THREE pucks of deluxe soap for $6. And it is good soap...

I would add voskhod blades here as well. For me they give great shaves.

Agreed. Arko is an amazing product and luckily I like the scent.

Nivea shave cream in metal tube. Available in your local brick and mortar such as Target.

There are so many amazing soap makers both artisan and corporate that none of them get the attention they deserve. There are more quality blades, DE and straight, that there is not enough time to discuss them and none of them get enough credit. Don't even try with pre/post products or the aftershave, EDT, etc. Same story. My hat is off to all you fine Mfg of products I love. That said, I would guess that the VanDerhagen family of products probably has brought more new shavers to our ranks than any other and I seldom see them mentioned.

I think Rudy Vey brushes are very underrated. Rudy makes great brushes with outstanding knots and high quality handles. I own many RV custom brushes with Shavemac 2 band Silvertips that he sources from Shavemac and are made by Bernd specifically for Rudy.

I will suggest to anybody that have never tried Rudy's brushes, give it a try, they are very nice.

Ha funny to read this as I just ordered a new one this morning. He is also a pleasure to work with and goes out of his way to make sure your happy with your purchase. PAV brushworks also makes some top knotch brushes.
