its great to hear everyone's experiences both good and not so good. At the end of the day the vast majority of transaction go off without a hitch and everyone is happy but every now and then, stuff happens. It doesn't surprise me that IB would have a facility in the US as the majority of his business is likely in the US.

kwsher thanks for pointing out some excellent vendors that were omitted from TSE's list I think we could all name a few for example I've had excellent service from Badger Shaving Co. and Men Essentials as well as The Copper Hat and then there's the artisans that sell only their products such as Barrister & Mann, The Holy Black and Chatillon Lux, Stirling Soap, Catie's Bubbles. OK I'm going to stop here I feel like an Oscar winner with the laundry list of people to thank, every time you mention one, six more come to mind and its impossible not to leave somebody out.

BigPoppa I'd love to get to know the mailman but I never see them - its been contracted out and they drive unmarked vehicles and we don't get front door delivery - if you live in an area developed within the last 25 or 30 years you get your mail delivered to a conveniently located box somewhere up the street. Older areas still get front door delivery because the politicians are afraid that if they take away that service and treat them like the rest of us schleps they'll lose votes. I do know the UPS guy pretty well though - we both have kids at university so we discuss the challenges of putting kids through school and whatnot.

Shawn its good to know that you still get decent service in the wilds of Northern Ontario - my son is at Laurentian studying engineering and playing basketball for the Voyageurs - they lost a tough one last night in Windsor. Its been bloody cold up there this winter.

Don't get me wrong, I love my country but like everywhere, we have a few things to work on.

I've never had any issued from vendors, WCS, BG, IB, Fendrihan, Connaught, TVB....and all the others I have forgotten. Any delay on getting my order is from Canada Post or shipping, not the fault of the vendor. Any issues that I have had (very few), have always been rectified professionally and properly.

Wet shaving vendors know how to take care of their customers.

@"Bruce" you've got that right. Honestly, I've never been so well treated by vendors or merchants or salespeople as I have by wet shaving vendors. I think its tough being a vendor in this space right now because not only do you have to have the products and the service but its expected that you have a presence in the community like on DFS or various other social media - one misstep or innocent misunderstanding and it can go viral and trash all of the work they've done. Thats pressure. But they handle it and almost always really well.

Completely agree @"Bruce" . I have had great experiences with shaving vendors and artisans overall. I think to be a vendor or artisan in this space you have to have a great deal of passion or interest and it shows.

One "odd" service interaction with a manufacturer that was resolved, albeit in an at best unusual way...

Glad to see the mention of Fendrihan as I have not ordered but have heard good things!

Fendrihan was my official entry into the world of online wet shaving vendors several years ago. Great selection of DE, Carts and straights soaps brushes and stuff beyond just shaving like pens and leather goods Japanese towels etc. If you haven't checked it out you should.

I just checked the cost to send a small package to canada via UPS. Cheapest for a 1 lb, 6x6x6 package popped up at $25 USD and change. And I thought USPS to Canada was expensive. Between that and the lackadaisicalness, all of these shipping companies must really be averse to cold weather or something.

I know right? I think its a case of doing it because they can - lack of real competition. A great example of the attitude was when Target announced a few years back that they were coming to Canada (much fanfare). This was good news because many Canadians have traveled to the US or have family and friends there and had experienced the value that Target represented. I knew it didn't bode well when the Pres. of Target Canada said in a press release that Canadians couldn't expect the same sort of value pricing that existed in the US. WTF - no they will price to local conditions welcome to Screwtopia. I think it was less than 5 years before Target Canada went belly up and closed their doors and left the country.

Bottom line is I'm selective about what I buy from the US, I always factor the cost of shipping and FX when comparing prices and I'm very patient. Emphasis on patient. Smile

This is why IB and Fendrihan have a huge following in Canada. Both offer free shipping over a certain $ amount. If I want to send a razor, brush or a single puck of soap to anyone in Canada, I'm looking at a minium of $10 (inside our own country). I can send the same small parcel to the USA for around $8, which is still crazy when the item may only be worth $5.

Outside of Canadian vendors, our next best option for cheap shipping is actually overseas like Connaught and TVB. They can ship it to us cheaper then from the USA. Go figure.

And like most Canadians, we're cheap and don't mind waiting a few extra days or a week for our goods to save a buck or two.
