I like stones with character, great figure in that one.
Where does it fit in your progression?

A finishing stone. If you use a synthetic progression go to at least 8,000 to 10,000 grit and then use this stone.

What do you use for lubricant? My favorite is 50/50 mineral oil and spirits/

I use a few different things . mineral oil is one of them.
Glycerin and water works also.

Ok,sorry for the delay.

Here is something I use often on my finishing arkansas stones.

Ingredients are.
Liquid dish soap.
Unscented baby oil.
Water.
A condiments container with liquid proof lid.

Mix 60 percent water to 20 to 30 percent oil..now add the dish soap and shake checking that the oil and water are mixing adding soap until you are happy with the thickness and evenness of your mixture.

This makes a nice, thin lubricant that cleans up rapidly. Cheers. -cam-

Something else I use ,especially on my finishing arkansas stones.

I picked up two OLD arkansas stones at an antique store, unfortunately one of them is a bit broken. I've lubricated with shave soap, but I may try the glycerin route. But I've always thought of gylcerin as a moisturizer not a lubricant. In fact too much seems to feel sticky.
Mineral oil/spirits won't work for me as my wife will not put up with the smell of mineral spirits.

Nice stone. Always keep your eye out at yard sales etc. the best translucent hards I have ever used were Nortons from the old Pike Mine. Stunning is the only word to describe them. I have two 8". One 1" thick and one 1/2" well worth keeping on your radar if opportunity arises
