Firstly, this and every other aspect of this hobby will always be very subjective, so there will be folks who prefer certain characteristics of a soap/cream over other characteristics and they can always use a balm if post-shave is not important to them.

Having said this, I greatly appreciate all traits of a soap, and post-shave is equally important to me. This is why I tend to stay away from the commercially made soaps as they tend to dry my skin and I gravitate towards the artisanal ones.
Fortunately, for me, I found one of the best soaps offering great post-shave and I have been using it as my main soap for the past five years. Shy

For me post-shave feel is one metric among many. That said, it's the most easily correctable fault in a soap, as a soap with mediocre post-shave feel can be offset by a great aftershave.

I'm with herbert7890. Post shave feel is high on the list for me because I have dry-ish skin most of the time. I like my soaps to be rich and moisturizing and since I don't really use balms, it's even more important.

Soap, it's drying. However, while a soap can be made more moisturizing this is not its intended purpose. Post shave feel is achieved via an appropriate aftershave product based on the person's skin type.

Where this comes in to play most is in comparing soaps as we have become spoiled with the great many fine shaving soaps available to us today. Needing this aspect of performance to differentiate a few soaps from others is a great example of our #1stWorldProblems.

Coming from the opposite end of the spectrum thanks to my oily skin, there are actually soaps out there that don't work well for me due to all of their added moisturizers. While they may make it possible for you to skip an aftershave product, I can't use it because it just makes my face all greasy and then I don't get a good shave. Now this really ruins post shave skin feel.

I've had that issue too SharpSpine. If the soap isn't balanced for my skin type, the face feel is greasy and unpleasant.

Good points SharpSpine. There are a couple soaps I tried that had too much post shave moisturizing, which left my face feeling greasy. My two favorite artisans have the best post shave qualities for my preference and skin type. I recognize there are others that are more moisturizing, but in my case more isn't always better.

I'd like to take the best care for my skin so I really refrain from using harsh and too drying soaps. Post shave feel is very important to me as well even though I use balms afterwards.

I have dry skin, so for me the soaps post shave is very important. Cushion, glide and scent is important to, but all my "tier 1" soaps have a great post shave. I alway use a balm, but with my best soaps, like MW, I get a "deeper" and softer feeling in my face that lasts through the day. In the summer it's not as important as it is in the colder season.
