For a long while I have used disposable plastic BreathRx tongue scrapers daily, just for overall oral care and health. When looking at prices for getting some more of them, I saw ads for Ayurvedic copper scrapers that claimed they are antibacterial and antiviral, thus more effective. Has anyone here used stainless steel or copper scrapers? Are they better than the plastic disposable ones?
Thanks.

I use the copper ones, they do a better job IMHO and since they are very pliable you can use them easily very far in your mouth, the sides and even under the tongue

I’ve been using a stainless steel one for a few years and it works well. I can’t compare it to the plastic one because I’ve never tried those. Obviously you’re not filling the landfill with plastic when you’re using steel. I wipe it down with rubbing alcohol regularly. The copper sounds interesting. I’m not sure I can visualize how flexiblity is functional.

My favourite tongue scrapers are the wooden kind:

I really hate product promotions that ascribe magical properties to materials like copper.

I used to use the GUM plastic ones a while ago, and I liked them, but they were really hard to clean. I bought a couple of stainless steel ones (not sure of the brand anymore) and have loved them from the day I got them. They're small and easy to clean/sterilize.

Love the flavored coating on those! Wonderful innovation!

Actually, I used a metal tongue scraper years ago and found it rough on the tongue. Why not just put a dab of toothpaste on a toothbrush and brush your tongue?

I'm sure there is a huge variation in how smooth and polished metal tongue scrapers can be. The ones I use are very gentle, but are probably not for everyone.

I have tried the toothbrush technique and it causes me to gag. The tongue scraper is a lot more sleek and doesn't set my gag reflex off much at all. Again, YMMV.

I've been using the toothbrush/toothpaste technique for years with no problems.  I even lightly go over the roof of my mouth and gums so, once again, I guess this is a case of YMMV.

I get the gag reflex too when using a toothbrush so I use the scrapers. Have had plastic but got a 2 pack of SS ones now.

For those experiencing gag reflex, it helps me to say "Ahhh" when brushing the back part of my tongue. Anything beyond what my brush can reach, I find I don't need to brush to get good breath.
